Storm Drainage Pipe Updates:

December 13, 2021:  Members of the Delavan Improvement Association attended the Town of Delavan, Committee of the Whole meeting.  DIA BOD members presented alternative financial options.  The Town of Delavan agreed to take a vote on a partial payment, ($7,552) for the replacement of one of the pipes  that begins at South Shore Drive.  This vote was taking place at the Town of Delavan Town Board meeting on 12/21/21.   Look for the vote status to be updated here shortly.

October 30, 2021:  A Special General Membership meeting of the Delmar Improvement Association is called.  The DIA BOD presented the Storm Drainage Pipe financial issue to the members and created a committee to research and address alternatives for construction and finance.

October 11, 2021:  Residents and DIA BOD members attended the Committee of the Whole Town of Delavan meeting and were presented with the Town of Delavan’s conclusion that the residents of Delmar are financially responsible  to pay for the repair and replacement of the badly eroded and damaged storm drainpipe under South Shore Drive in front of our Delmar Beach property, as well as the sections under our Delmar Beach property.

 Storm Drainage Pipe Summary:

Background:  During the Town of Delavan, Committee of the Whole meeting on 10/11/21, The Town of Delavan stated that the financial responsibility of the storm drainage repair and replacement, (damaged from years of underground erosion and discovered during the repair and construction of the South Shore Road project) lies with the owner of the property above the location of the pipe.  (It is located under South Shore Drive, then through and under Delmar Beach, out into Lake Delavan).  The estimated costs would range from $15,000-$25,000 (if done at the same time the equipment and manpower were already on site from the South Shore Road Project).  Since that time, the Delmar Improvement Association’s Board of Directors met, discussed, and presented the information to our members at a special membership meeting held on 10/30/21.  A Storm Drainage Committee was formed to research and present options to our DIA board.  Our obligation as the DIA BOD is to represent our members.  We disagree with the Town of Delavan that our members of are financially responsible for repair and replacement and will attend all Town of Delavan meetings to present our opposition with alternative solutions.

DIA BOD Action:  We believe that the financial responsibility falls with the town, not the members of the association.  Our board and committee members have researched, (and continue to research) prior cases and options, and present those at each Town of Delavan meetings.  We will post scheduled meeting dates and time on our website (www.delmardelavan.com) and Facebook Group Page (https://www.facebook.com/Delmar-Improvement-Association-223525056347781).
